Present at the ceremony organized on the occasion of the National Day of the Kingdom of Spain by the Spanish Embassy in Romania at the Royal Palace, the National Art Museum of Romania, Prime Minister Marcel Ciucă was asked how he would vote in connection with lifting the immunity of parliamentarian Nelu Tătaru.

According to the PSD leader, all social-democratic parliamentarians will vote to lift immunity in the case of Nelu Tătaru, former Minister of Health, against whom the National Anticorruption Directorate has started a criminal investigation for bribery. The Prime Minister wanted to specify the fact that parliamentarians and politicians must understand that immunity refers to political statements and not to criminal acts.

Marcel Ciolacu’s statements come in the context in which the DNA requested the approval of the Chamber of Deputies for IT and home searches in the case of Nelu Tătaru, who, after the outbreak of the scandal, was already dismissed from the leadership of the Health Committee in the chamber. The Prime Minister also mentioned that such an action, to lift parliamentary immunity, has not taken place for a long time.

“There has been no exception for many years. And I think that, finally, they understood that the Parliament is not for having immunity for criminal acts. He has immunity for political statements. That era is over,” commented Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu.

We remind you that the former Minister of Health Nelu Tătaru is accused by DNA prosecutors of taking bribes from several patients in order to treat them properly not only money, but also other goods. He denies all the accusations brought against him, and regarding his dismissal by the PNL from all the positions he held and the withdrawal of political support, he says that “there is no problem”.

In the same file, 27 other people suspected of having given bribes are being investigated.
