Radu Miruță draws attention to the fact that the PSD cannot impose on the liberals who to appoint as prime minister: “What are we doing, we also tell the PSD to have other MPs in Gorj?”

Radu Miruță stated in the News Pass show from the B1 TV station that a possible support of a motion of censure by the PSD, together with the AUR, would fundamentally change the political relationship between the USR and the social democrats. The Minister of Defense also emphasized that the party led by Sorin Grindeanu cannot tell the liberals who to appoint as prime minister.

According to the minister, such a PSD vote alongside the AUR would make any further discussion on the formation of a new majority impossible.

The Minister of Defense stated that recurrent discussions about the stability of the coalition affect Romania’s ability to capitalize on external opportunities, accusing the PSD of generating political uncertainty through contradictory statements and actions.

Miruță also stated that social democrats cannot impose candidates for key positions in the Government or state institutions on other parties, explaining that in a political coalition it is not normal for one party to determine the internal appointments of another.

“What are we going to do now? We are also going to tell those from the PSD that we agree to have two deputies in Gorj county, but not these two, but two others? I agree to have a candidate for the mayor’s office from the PSD, but not candidate X, but candidate Y… A coalition exists because the parties need each other. It is not natural for one party to dictate to another who to appoint to a position”said the minister, emphasizing that the PSD cannot tell the liberals who to appoint as prime minister.

The minister recalled that the Social Democratic Party does not have the necessary majority to decide unilaterally the political direction of the country and not who to propose as prime minister.

“The PSD cannot tell the PNL who to appoint its liberals as prime minister. The PSD cannot tell the USR who to appoint its People’s Advocatei”, added Radu Miruţă.

Miruță recalled that USR previously supported some PSD proposals for the Constitutional Court, not necessarily out of conviction, but to comply with the coalition’s operating rules.

We remind you that President Nicușor Dan said on Thursday, in an interview on Europa FM, that one of the possible scenarios in the next period is the formation of a minority government. The head of state emphasized, however, that such an executive would inevitably need parliamentary support, and it remains to be seen if there will be a majority willing to support it.

Radu Miruță specified that, in his opinion, the role of the president is that of a mediator, and the current coalition needs this type of institutional balance.
