Bernardo Silva (2), Phil Foden (66) and Josko Gvardiol (71) scored for the defending champions, while Ruben Dias (12, own goal), Rodrygo (14) and Fede Valverde (79) scored for Madrid.

City started strongly and opened the scoring in the second minute, through the Portuguese Bernardo Silva, from a free kick from about 40 meters. The guests had the chance to double their advantage, but goalkeeper Lunin defended Haaland's restart at the short corner.

Real Madrid, in match number 200 for coach Carlo Ancelotti in the Champions League, managed to equalize in min. 12, when Camavinga's shot from the edge of the box was deflected by defender Ruben Dias. Immediately, Real Madrid, the record holder of trophies in the competition (14), took the lead, through the Brazilian Rodrygo (14), launched on the counterattack by compatriot Vinicius Junior. Rodrygo also took advantage of Akanji's hesitation, sending the ball between the legs of the Swiss defender. The hosts' good moments continued, but the German goalkeeper Ortega rejected Rodrygo's shot (31), the Brazilian later missing the target (33). Ortega was at the post and at the ball sent by Vinicius Junior (42).

After the break, “los blancos” were also dangerous, but Bellingham (54) and Vinicius Junior (56) were inaccurate.

The “Citizens” built better and better, and thus opportunities appeared at Lunin's goal, but Foden (59) and Bernardo Silva (60) could not beat the Ukrainian. Lunin could not do anything to Foden's shot (66), from the edge of the box, nor to the ball sent with effect by the Croatian defender Gvardiol (71), so Guardiola's team took the lead after these two goals that came during five minutes.

Real Madrid managed to avoid defeat, with a sensational goal scored by the Uruguayan Fede Valverde, with a volley from the box, to a ball sent from the other end by Vinicius Junior.

The second leg will take place in Manchester on April 17.
