Real Madrid, who hold the record for trophies in the competition (14), did not shine on the day when the club turned 122 years of existence, but they qualified thanks to the victory in the round, with 1-0.

RB Leipzig played a nice game and created several good goalscoring opportunities, but they recorded multiple misses, mostly by the Belgian Lois Openda, inaccurate in all his attempts (13, 16, 42). Xavi Simons tested goalkeeper Andri Lunin (41) in the first half.

After the break, Real Madrid managed to threaten Gulacsi's goal, for the first time through Rodrygo (63), who sent to the short corner, this being the first shot on goal for “los blancos”.

The Madrilenians coached by Carlo Ancelotti, who had only one game out of the previous 71 played at home in the Champions League without a goal scored, opened the scoring through Vinicius Junior, excellently launched by Bellingham (65), after a successful interception by Kroos.

The advantage of the Spaniards lasted only three minutes, for RB Leipzig managed to equalize. After Rudiger blocked a Simons shot (67), Raum crossed into the box and captain Willi Orban headed the ball into the net (68). For the Hungarian international, it was only the second goal scored in the Champions League, after the one scored in October 2017, against FC Porto.

RB Leipzig tried to take the match to extra time, but Lunin was at the post for Sesko's shot (74), and the Spaniard Dani Olmo sent it across the crossbar (90+2) with a spectacular lob.
