Roblox, a profitable hunting ground for cyber criminals. How are the children fooled

Cyber security experts have highlighted the increasing risks that children face online, analyzing the threats associated with one of the most popular game platforms – Roblox.

Cyber attacks multiplied alarmingly

Experts point the alarming growth of cyber threats disguised in Roblox files: the huge popularity of the game transformed into a profitable target for cyber criminals, Kaspersky detecting over 1.6 million cyber attack attempts, disguised in files related to Roblox only in 2024.

With millions of monthly active users, Roblox is more than just a game, it is a digital playground for children around the world the massive attractiveness of the game among the younger public transformed into a profitable hunting field for cyber offenders that disguise Malware in modes, cheats or free generators of coins in the game.

One of the most common gaming scams is the offer to receive free coins or tokens in the game. In one of the identified schemes, users are required to introduce the game ID or username, selecting the preferred platform (Android, iOS, Windows, PlayStation, Xbox or Nintendo) to create the illusion of an official multiplatform tool. Below it, a false tool for tracking the activity shows recent transactions from alleged players who received Robux, strengthening the credibility of the deception. Once the player continues, he is asked to go through various “verification” tasks or respond to polls to win the prize, which could include a new iPhone, PlayStation, etc. However, to receive the prize, the victims are asked to pay for delivery. After the payment is completed, the victim loses the money and does not receive the prize.
