The Minister of Health, Alexandru Rogobete, states that the measure regarding the non-payment of the first day of medical leave “must be nuanced and applied correctly, not generalized and unfair”, emphasizing that there are categories of patients who “really depend on this medical support”.
“We had a consistent meeting with patient associations, where we analyzed all the nuances and technical criteria. There are clear situations, without room for interpretation or suspicion — we are talking about cancer patients, patients with rare diseases, chronic patients and other categories”the minister said.
He stated that within the measure “explicit exceptions will be introduced where things are firm and obvious”, and “these corrections will be made directly by the Ministry of Health, so that patients who really need medical leave are protected.”
“My role as health minister is to defend patients, medical staff and the proper functioning of the system”Rogobete also said, adding that “the economic impact is important for the sustainability of the public system”, but “it will never come before people’s health”.
In this context, the minister announced that it was completed “an emergency ordinance entering into decisional transparency and introducing clear protection methodologies”, meant to “correct the excesses of the past and remove situations where vulnerable patients may have been affected by the lack of regulation”.
“Reform means order, fairness and real protection for those who need the health care system. And that’s exactly what we’re doing.” the Minister of Health also sent, in a post on Facebook.
