Romania, abandoned: three names on the books to replace Edward Iordănescu. The big favorite advantage

Last time when the federation was left without a coach, after the departure of Mirel Rădoi (43 years old) in November 2021, finding a replacement turned into an ordeal for the FRF.

Because, one by one, the refusals of Gheorghe Hagi, Dan Petrescu and Răzvan Lucescu came. And with Ladislau Bölöni, negotiations were held in Bucharest, concluded after a failure due to misunderstandings regarding the contractual clauses.

Now, the federation has to relive the same ordeal. Given that she is also pressed for time because the first match in the League of Nations is knocking on the door, as Adevărul has shown here. The options of Gheorghe Hagi (suitable for Fanatik), Cristi Chivu and Adrian Mutu to replace Edward Iordănescu have already been circulated. And these speculations will intensify in the coming days.

It remains to be seen how quickly the federation will move, however, if we were to go by a statement given by Burleanu on June 4, theoretically, the FRF always had a “plan B“: “We want to know by the time we leave for Germany if we will continue with Iordănescu after the Euro. At the same time, like any organization, we will be prepared for any scenario“.

If, indeed, things were like this and the FRF had a strategy for the eventuality of Iordănescu’s departure, it is a matter that we will convince ourselves of in the following days.

Adrian Mutu can become the new Romanian coach.

The first option of the federation is free of contract

According to Adevărul information, Adrian Mutu (45 years old) is in pole-position to be named Romania’s national coach.

He is free of contract, after leaving CFR Cluj in April. And in very good relations with the people at Casa Fotbalului, after the mandate he had at the national youth team, between January 2020 and April 2021.

Mutu also qualified Romania U21 for the 2021 European Championship, obtaining 5 points in the final tournament, after the victory with Hungary U21 and the draws with Holland U21 and Germany U21. Even though the small tricolors left the competition after the group stage, and Mutu went to Mititelu’s Craiova, he remained in very good relations with Burleanu and the company.
