Romania governed by crises. Is a real reform of the political class possible? ANALYSIS

The cabinet led by Ilie Bolojan is in a longer a series of governments that have debuted with scandals related to its members from the first month. In the last 3 government teams 9 ministers have left as a result of public pressures. Such scandals show that Romania also needs politicians, and the parties must find the promotion mechanisms necessary to bring the right people to the top, says Professor Radu Carp.

The Bolojan government is not the only one who has faced image scandals about its members from the first months of the mandate. For example, in Ciolacu’s office (June 15, 2023 – December 23, 2024) the prime minister who left was Marius Budăi, and in the government led by Nicolae Ciuca was Florin Roman. In total, two ministers left before the mandate the Ciolacu Government, and six other Ciuca cabinet (November 15, 2021 -15 June 2023).

Marius Budăi and Gabriela Firea left in the first month the first cabinet led by Marcel Ciolacu, following the scandal regarding the “asylums of horror”, when numerous serious irregularities were discovered in several asylums in the country.

In the case of the cabinet led by Nicolae Ciuca, the one who left the first month is Florin Roman, who left the chief armchair of the Ministry of Development following plagiarism charges, in connection with the master’s work. He was followed by Dan Vîlceanu, Adrian Cheșnoiu, Sorin Cîmpeanu, Marcel Boloș and Vasile Dâncu. Boloș left the top of the same ministry. In total, 3 ministers had the Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digitalization, and the mandate was completed by Sebastian Burduja.

Now, the resignation of former Deputy Prime Minister Dragoș Anastasiu comes about one month after the installation of the new government office, against the backdrop of his involvement in a corruption file regarding the bribery of an ANAF operation for 8 years. Anastasiu left the executive by invoking a campaign to denigrate him, after disturbing the sine in the context of the reform of the state companies.

“The parties must find those mechanisms to promote the right people in the right places” – Radu Carp, professor Political Sciences

“The parties, despite the appearances, have a selection. Sure, maybe not so much in recent years, because many have left, have fled, but the parties have competent people. Everything is to find those mechanisms to promote the right people in the right places. Here is a problem, because the mechanisms are not transparent,”XPPLICE Professor Radu Carp for “Adevărul”.

At the same time, “This illusion has been cultivated in recent years that there may be someone outside the political field that has a successful career in politics and have direct results, against this background of rejecting traditional politicians, to say, Mainstream. This is the background that Nicușor Dan evolved and managed to win the presidency. It is also the background on which the extremist parties have evolved that proposed that they are actually other than traditional parties. So this model of the independent, but who is good at politics was very well taken by the public. The reality is, however, that there are very few who come from outside politics and can have a good career in politics. Nicușor is an exception, but if we look carefully at his course we see that he was interested in the problems of the local administration of Bucharest a long time before forming the USR party”.

“I think this illusion has made people like Anastasiu promoted very quickly. In the idea that they did not have political belonging and have managerial experience. Or this has been shown to be an illusion, because those who come from outside the politics may not be immaculate, as part of the public opinion. Maculat.explains Radu Carp.

He stresses that Romania must be aware that it also needs politicians: “I think the illusion is that we, in fact, no longer need politicians, we need the Messiah. I saw where this illusion took us, I think it’s time to wake up a little of this illusion”, Concludes the teacher.
