A couple of world-traveling Romanian vloggers, “HaiHui în doi”, made an amazing discovery in the American state of Pennsylvania. More precisely, the two vloggers, Andreia and Ionuț, visited a depopulated village called Romania.
The village of Romania is three and a half hours from Washington, DC, according to the vloggers.
“I took the train from Chicago to Washington DC, 18 hours I traveled, and from the capital I rented a car and drove here for about three and a half hours. But I didn't find accommodation in the village of Romania, because you don't find anything like that“said the Romanian vlogger.

“This whole experience gives us a picture of rural America that you only see in the movies. In reality, tourists don't really get here. We are approaching the village of Romania. We have 12 minutes left and we have already entered a country road. The landscape is like in Romania. I say that we are somewhere between Cacica and Botoșana, from Bucovina, where we grew up. However, the village itself is quite isolated. That's probably why there's no asphalt, and that's why it's good to come here in the summer if you want to see it“.
Immediately after entering Romania, the vloggers noticed that most of the houses are abandoned and only a few have gone through a renovation process. Next, the two ventured on the street that crosses the village out of a desire to talk with the locals.
In the end, the Romanian vloggers came across two locals, who confessed that they don't know anything about our country.
According to the information presented in the video, a home in this American village was bought for just one dollar.
“This house was bought for one dollar by the people who currently live in it. If you don't pay your property taxes for 3-4 years, the state puts your house up for sale. Anyone can buy it, even for as little as a dollar. You just buy it with history, you have to pay the outstanding property tax and if the people who owned it, the previous owners, had bank credit, you buy it with all that credit. Here, in Romania, houses are sold for one dollar, if the owners are not careful and do not pay their taxes on time“, the vlogger also specified.
Where does the name come from?
“In June 1875, a businessman named Philip Roman settled here and opened a mine. Along with him, around 100 people came to work here, among them many Italians, as we learned from the residents of the village. Therefore, the name has nothing to do with Romania, but comes from the name of the first inhabitant of this settlement, namely Philip Roman”said the vlogger.
