Romania, the only EU country where Donald Trump still enjoys popularity. Who appreciates Vladimir Putin in Europe

According to a global survey conducted by Gallup International, Romania stands out in the European Union as the only country where American President Donald Trump registers a positive rating.

In a context where the number of surveys regarding the image of world leaders reflect major differences between regions, Romania stands out as the only country in the European Union where the American President Donald Trump registers a positive rating. At the same time, support for Russian President Vladimir Putin remains extremely limited on the continent.

A global survey by Gallup International conducted between October and December 2025, analyzed public opinion in 61 countries about five political leaders and a religious figure: Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin, Xi Jinping, Benjamin Netanyahu and Pope Leo.

The survey results show that, worldwide, Donald Trump is at the top of the ranking with a favorable rating of 30%, followed by the Chinese president Xi Jinpingwith 29%.

they both have a favorable rate of 25%, and the Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu has the lowest score of 19%.

Romania makes a discordant note in the EU

Romania stands out in Europe through a singular phenomenon: it is the only EU country in which Donald Trump is perceived positively, with a rating of 11% net favorable.

This contrasts sharply with other European states, where the American president has extremely negative scores: Denmark (-84%), Sweden (-80%) and Norway (-79%).

In the region, only a few countries outside the European Union, such as Kosovo (27%), Moldova (10%) and North Macedonia (2%), still offer support for Trump.

Who appreciates Vladimir Putin

As for Vladimir Putin, the only European country where the Kremlin leader has positive support is Serbia.

In the European Union, the Russian president has no favorable support, and in Ukraine the approval rate is extremely low (-98%).

In Romania, the unfavorable rate towards the Russian president is significant, 30% and comparable to that in Hungary (34%), showing a critical perception of the Romanian public opinion towards the politics of Russia.
