Romania was left without representatives on the main draw at the Australian Open. Gabriela Ruse, eliminated in round 3, after Jaqueline Cristian and Cîrstea

Gabriela Ruse’s career at the Australian Open ended in the third round, after the defeat suffered on the Rod Laver Arena, in front of Mirra Andreeva, score 6-3, 6-4.

Although the Romanian tried to set an aggressive pace and put constant pressure on her opponent, the 18-year-old managed the key moments better and qualified.

The match started evenly, with Ruse having several break chances in the opponent’s first service games, but without succeeding. Gradually, Andreeva took the initiative, moved the game from one corner to another and took advantage of the mistakes that appeared against the background of the Romanian’s aggressiveness, closing the first set with 6-3.

In the second act, the Romanian continued to attack, but Andreeva’s solid defense made the difference. Several breaks followed on both sides, and in the end Andreeva was more confident, ending the set at 6-4 and the match after one hour and 37 minutes.
