Romanian universities preferred by international students. Over 8,500 were analyzed, from all over the world

Three Romanian universities are in the top 1,000 in a list that includes over 8,500 higher education institutions from all over the world. In total, 73 universities from our country are included in the Study Abroad Aide’s World University Rankings.

The ranking compiled by the Study Abroad Aide platform that helps young people around the globe choose the university abroad that best suits their needs analyzed 8,536 universities from all over the world, almost 500 more than in the previous edition. In this ranking, three universities from Romania rank in the first 1,000 places, and another 70 were also taken into account as an option for foreign students and appear in this ranking.

Academic reputation (world rankings of each university are collected from well-known and credible institution ranking bodies such as Times Higher Education World University Rankings, QS World University Rankings and US News & World Report Best Colleges) and international student body are two among the main conditions taken into account when compiling the general ranking.

Interested persons can also consult the Study Abroad Aide platform and the “Best Value Universities” ranking (universities with affordable tuition fees and excellent academic reputation).

In the global ranking, the University of Bucharest occupies the 857th place in the most recent edition of the ranking, followed by the Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca (863rd place) and the Bucharest Academy of Economic Studies – 948th place. In a top 10 Romanian universities which appear in this global ranking also include: 1,190th place – POLITEHNICA University of Bucharest; Lower Danube University in Galati – 1,235; Alexandru Ioan Cuza University – 1,344; Technical University of Cluj-Napoca – 1,431; Transylvania University of Brasov – 1,444; Western University of Timisoara – 1,473; Polytechnic University of Timisoara – 1,725.

The Academy of Economic Studies in Bucharest is ranked 3rd in Romania, according to Study Abroad Aide’s World University Rankings, 2025 edition, and, as we showed above, in position 948 out of the 8,536 universities evaluated globally. In the ranking drawn up according to the criterion “Best value 2024 for international students“, ASE Bucharest ranks first among Romanian universities (and 550th in the global ranking), followed by POLITEHNICA University of Bucharest (1,023) and Babeș-Bolyai University (1,109).

The sustained efforts of the Academy of Economic Studies in Bucharest for facilitating integration and promoting an academic environment favorable to international students are recognized by this ranking, published recently. Top 10 International Universities

In the global ranking prepared by Study Abroad Aide, the first three places are occupied by universities in the USA. First place is taken by Harvard University, followed by Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Stanford University. On the 4th place we find the University of Oxford (United Kingdom), on the 5th – the University of Cambridge (the United Kingdom, the first public university in the top), the 6th place – the University of California, Berkeley (USA, public sector), the 7th place – Columbia University ( USA), 8th place – University of Pennsylvania (USA), 9th place – Yale University (USA), 10th place – Cornell University (USA).

In “World’s Best Value University Rankings 2024 for International Students” (universities with affordable tuition fees and excellent academic reputation) on the 1st place is the University of Oxford (UK), followed by Harvard University (USA), Massachusetts Institute of Technology, etc.
