A Romanian woman who arrived in Great Britain went through dramatic moments after being abandoned by her husband right at the airport where she was supposed to be picked up. With no money, no English, and nowhere to go, the woman sat on a chair in the terminal for hours, waiting in vain for the promised help.
According to the publication Jurnal de Emigrant, the woman had come to the United Kingdom to meet her husband, but he did not appear at the airport and did not offer her any solution to reach her destination.
Left alone in an unfamiliar environment, the Romanian had no financial resources and could not communicate in English to ask for help. His situation became known after it was noticed by another Romanian woman, impressed by the state of despair in which he was.
She photographed her and reported the case on the Facebook groups of the Romanian communities in Great Britain, triggering an impressive mobilization.
Within hours, numerous members of the diaspora offered to support her. Some offered to go personally to the airport, others to translate, find her a place to stay or even contribute financially for her return to Romania.
The woman was later picked up by the representative of the company International Funerals LTD and transported to the address she had available. Because the area was not considered safe, she was put up in a nearby hotel.
According to those involved in helping her, the husband allegedly promised to come pick her up the next day. This did not happen, however.
After waiting in vain for her partner and receiving no support from him, the woman decided to return to the country.
Members of the Romanian community in the UK organized all the necessary details for her return, including transport to the airport and boarding a plane to Romania, where her family awaits her.
Adriana Mureșan, the founder of the RoOmenia group and association – Volunteers in Europe, sent a message that became the symbol of the mobilization of Romanians in the diaspora.
“You are not alone. We are here“, she declared.
