From today we have a direct flight Bucharest – Baku! It is a historical moment in the direct relationship between Romania and Azerbaijan, because, from today, the strategic partnership takes on new dimensions. The inauguration took place in the presence of the two ambassadors Gudsi Osmanov and Vasile Soare, but also of the informal ambassadors Adrian Mutu and Paul Nicolau. Certainly the direct flight with a frequency of 2 times a week and lasting 3 hours compared to the one with a stopover of 10-12 hours will generate opportunities for both entrepreneurs and tourists.

Corina Martin was already telling me that she is in contact with two travel agencies in Azerbaijan to present the holiday packages and start the collaboration.

But more than that, the collaboration with Azerbaijan and President Aliev is strategic in the field of energy. That's why, with this new direct air route, I think we will quickly exceed the value of bilateral trade of 353 million euros, of which exports of only 23 million euros“, Radu Oprea said in a post on his Facebook page.

The direct route Bucharest-Baku and return, according to the Romanian ambassador to Azerbaijan, Vasile Soare, is a dream come true and a project that will support two other projects that Romania and Azerbaijan are working on: the delivery of green energy and the creation of a general goods corridor between Asia and Europe through Port Constanța.

“A direct flight to Romania, for me, as an ambassador, is a dream that is coming true today, after 3 years since I have been at the post in Baku, because this moment completes our immeasurable efforts to strengthen the Romanian-Azerbaijani relationship. Since 2009, Romania was the first country in the European Union to propose to Azerbaijan the raising of relations to a strategic partnership level. Today, I see this moment of the first direct flight as a first physical link between Azerbaijan and Romania. In 2023, we were breaking the ice, creating through an inter-institutional effort, a corridor through which natural gas from Azerbaijan would reach Romania. In a moment of crisis, Azerbaijan he extended a hand to us. On April 1, the president of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilhan Aliyev, who extended a hand to us when Romania was in crisis and needed gas, understood very well our request to create this direct link. It is certain that today we have this first physical connection between Romania and Azerbaijan (…) The discussion was on April 1, and the decision on April 8, and today we have the flight from Bucharest”said the Ambassador of Romania to Azerbaijan, Vasile Soare, at the launch conference of flight operations from “Henri Coandă” Bucharest International Airport on the Baku – Bucharest route.
