Romanians, high at the French Open: Begu and Bogdan, in the second round, with full pockets

The French Open 2024 started badly for Romania, with Jaqueline Cristian (69 WTA) suffering a failure, which is a predictable one, in front of Jelena Ostapenko (11 WTA). Today, however, the two girls we had on the board did excellently, ticking off two games won without emotions.

First, Irina Begu (127 WTA) defeated Julia Riera (Argentina, 21 years old, 115 WTA), score 6-2, 6-3. Then, Ana Bogdan (64 WTA) passed Elsa Jacquemot (France, 21 years old, 149 WTA), score 6-1, 6-3.

For access to the second round, Begu and Bogdan each secured a check worth 110,000 euros. In the next round, Begu will face Linda Noskova (Czech Republic, 19 years old, 29 WTA). Bogdan will have an even tougher task, going to play Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (Russia, 32 years old, 22 WTA).

On Tuesday, the last Romanian in the first round, Sorana Cîrstea (30 WTA), will start her journey at Roland Garros, with a match with Anna Blinkova (Russia, 25 years old, 55 WTA). The match will start after 12.00, Romanian time. The French Open is broadcast by the Eurosport channel and Max, the streaming platform.
