The students from the Romanian team won one gold, three silver and two bronze medals at the International Mathematical Olympiad, held in China, the Ministry of Education announces.

The Romanian team was led by university professor Dr. Cătălin Gherghe from the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics of the University of Bucharest (Leader), lecturer Mihai Chiş from the Faculty of Informatics in Timisoara (Deputy Leader) and Lucian Ţurea, the Romanian Society of Mathematical Sciences.
The 67th edition of the International Mathematical Olympiad took place between July 10-21, in Shanghai, China, with the participation of 666 competitors from over 120 countries.
At the level of the Ministry of Education and Research, the coordination of the Olympics was ensured by the Department of Olympics, Competitions, Partnerships and Extracurricular Education, through Prof. Elisabeta Ana Nagy, MEC inspector.
The Ministry of Education mentioned that it supports the participation of our country’s national teams in the international Olympics by covering participation fees and travel costs, per diem related to the days of stay, as well as in the organization and running of the stages preceding the international Olympics – the local/county/municipal and national stages of these competitions.
