From Wednesday, May 8, the registrations for the competition that year after year make happy thousands of college graduates eager to teach in pre-university education. Tens of thousands more are thinking, after the results are displayed, whether to try again the following year to achieve their dream.

The objective of a college graduate who wants to reach the department is to occupy a tenured position, which means that he will no longer have to appear at the competition every summer and sit with his soul in his mouth after the end of the courses and until the fall to find out which school he will be teaching at next school year.
Every year, hundreds and even thousands of candidates apply in each county, but tenured positions (which have viability for at least four years) are few and, on top of that, many of them are for disciplines for which there are no longer applicants.
The first condition for tenure in education is obtaining at least grade 7 in the tenure competition. There are disciplines for which, for years in a row, there are no competitive positions, so that thousands of candidates, even if they have a grade above 7, are forced to take the competition next summer. With the grade from the competition, I can instead apply for a substitute position (for substitute positions, which are much more numerous, the minimum grade is 5), for this reason the Titularization competition is of such great importance.
Registration begins
According to the calendar, between May 8-17, 2024, the registration files of the candidates for the competition to occupy vacant/reserved positions/chairs are registered at the county school inspectorates, including for the graduates of the 2024 promotion, the written test being scheduled for July 17, 2024.
On April 29, 2024, the list of positions for the contest was published, so any interested person can find the data for each individual county on the website dedicated to the Titularization contest. The list of titular positions is grouped into five categories: vacant positions, employment for an indefinite period; vacant positions, employment for an indefinite period incomplete; vacant/reserved positions, fixed-term employment complete; vacant/reserved positions, fixed-term employment incomplete; the positions held.
“Inflation” of teacher positions
This year, most counties have more tenured positions put up for competition compared to previous years, and this is because there is a high demand for early childhood educators. Qualified personnel are needed for nurseries that have passed from the administration of town halls to the subordination of school inspectorates. These positions can be filled either by graduates of the pedagogic high school specializing in educator-childcare, or by graduates who have attended special training courses in the same field.
For graduates with other specializations, the chances of obtaining a tenured position are almost as low as in previous years. Also from the analysis of the available positions it can be observed that many positions for Chemistry, Mathematics and technical subjects have been vacant. The alarm signal existed since the past years, when in many schools the chairs were secured for such subjects by keeping pensioners in the school, on an hourly payment regime. In the meantime, other teachers have retired, and the deficit for the Science field has deepened.
In Olt County, for example, there are a total of 44 vacant positions (almost double the number of 2023), five of which are for Mathematics.
“We have chairs, but the candidates come with a little less training and work harder. I could say that the best high school graduates don't go to Mathematics, we can look at things like that. It has no more search”, says Prof. Cristian Miu, school inspector for Human Resources from IȘJ Olt.
Equally difficult to fill, in Olt, are the vacant general medicine positions for many years at the state health post-secondary school.
