Serious errors in the assessment of students in the Baccalaureate simulation. One paper, four different notes: “The situation is not singular”

The director of a high school in Timișoara draws attention, in a message published on his Facebook page, to some serious irregularities that he noticed during the evaluation of the papers from this year's Baccalaureate exam simulation. Dan Ion Ionici, director of the “Jean Louis Calderon” Theoretical High School in Timișoara, noticed huge differences between the marks given to the same paper by the evaluators.

“What is abnormal is the marking method and the method of calculating the average of a student whose paper was corrected by 4 correctors who gave 4 marks: 7.60, 4.60, 4.80 and 7.10!! According to art. . 12 from OME 6156/2023 the calculation is: 4.80 + 7.10=11.90:2=5.95 final mark! Concretely, what should a student understand who has such big differences between marks! A. …and again the students are to blame for not learning! The situation is not singular…!”, draws the teacher's attention. “We can understand that in the system we also have students who are learning and who want to be graded as correctly as possible in a national exam!”, wrote Dan Ion Ionici, on the social network.

The teacher is of the opinion that the selection of evaluator teachers should be done more carefully and according to clear criteria: “They should teach at the high school and have expertise in the evaluation of Baccalaureate papers”, he stated in a televised intervention.

What the Ministry of Education promises

The reaction of the Ministry of Education was not long in coming. State Secretary Sorin Ion said that the ministry will try to get information about the teachers who gave such different scores when correcting the papers and that they will be “helped to improve their skills as evaluators” because “they are teachers who teach in class”.

The evaluating teachers who participated in the simulation of the Baccalaureate exam drew attention to the fact that they had to correct a very large number of papers in a very short time. And, they also said, their participation was not remunerated, we learn from the website portalinvatamant.ro.

According to the procedure announced by the Ministry of Education, an evaluator teacher should have received about 50 papers in the national exam simulations. In reality, the number of works received exceeded 70.

Teachers complained on social media that the effort required to correct papers on the online platform was greater than in the case of paper correction.

According to the Ministry of Education, almost 14,000 teachers were involved in the evaluation process of the works. As for the scanning and uploading of papers into the platform, this has been ensured by more than 10,000 assistant professors.
