Romanian universities have expanded their presence in the latest edition of the Times Higher Education ranking, published on Wednesday, which analyzes performance by field of study. Romanian institutions registered 63 appearances in the 11 evaluated fields, 6 more than in the previous edition, due to the expansion of the number of universities analyzed globally.

However, most Romanian universities are found in the last part of the rankings by fields of study. Only a few manage to position themselves in the middle zone, according to the ranking published by Times Higher Education.
The Times Higher Education ranking by fields of study for the year 2025 includes 22 universities in Romania. Among these, Babeș-Bolyai University stands out as a leader, being present in 9 of the 63 total appearances of Romanian institutions. Also, Babeș-Bolyai University is a leader or co-leader in 7 fields.
The University of Bucharest and the University “Al.I. Cuza” from Iasi, each with 7 appearances. Other universities with significant representation include Transilvania University of Brașov (5 appearances), “Lucian Blaga” University of Sibiu and West University of Timișoara (each with 4 appearances).
Large universities with a specialized profile, such as the Politehnica University of Bucharest or several medical universities, appear with only one appearance.
It should be noted that, as in previous years, Romania has no representation in the field of Law.
