Craiova University was defeated 0-1 by FC Argeș, in the fourth stage of the Super League.
The Oltenians started the game better and tried to put pressure from the first minutes, but were quickly surprised on the counterattack. In the 7th minute, Yanis Pîrvu took advantage of the space created in Craiova’s defense and opened the scoring with a simple shot from inside the box. Adrian Rus failed to intervene in time.
Craiova tried to respond, and the guests’ most important chances came within just two minutes. Ștefan Baiaram and Alex Cicâldău had opportunities in the 26th and 27th minutes, but neither found the right solution to restore the tie. The team from Bănie had serious problems in front of the goal and did not manage to send a single shot into the goal space in the first half.
Craiova forced the tie, but the goal did not come
Craiova University came out of the booths much more determined and started to put pressure on the defense of FC Argeș. Matei was close to the goal since the 47th minute, when he sent a header just wide of the goal, and a few minutes later he wasted another important chance. And Alex Cicâldău had an excellent opportunity in the 54th minute, but his execution from a very good position did not catch the frame of the goal.
The Olten pressure continued, and in the 74th minute, Ștefan Baiaram was one step away from equalizing, but his shot hit the crossbar. The end also brought a controversial phase: in the 88th minute, Craiova requested a penalty after Assad Al-Hamlawi fell in the home team’s box, following a duel with Oancea. Referee Szabolcs Kovacs let the game continue, much to the displeasure of the players and the Olten bench. Despite the numerous opportunities created after the break, Universitatea Craiova did not find the way to the goal. FC Argeș resisted until the end and achieved an important victory, while the Romanian champions reached their second failure of the current Super League season, after failing to prevail against Dinamo, score, 1-5, in stage #2.
