“Today we publicly presented the most extensive study carried out in recent years on young doctors in Romania – an approach to which more than 4,200 students and resident doctors from all major university centers of the country, as well as from abroad, contributed.
The study finally provides a lucid picture of the reasons why younger generations choose to leave or, on the contrary, still consider staying here.
Some conclusions that should make us think:
• More than 80% of young doctors are afraid to refuse unpaid guards.
• Almost 50% of residents do not trust the quality of the medical training they receive.
• 70% of students considering leaving do not think they can build a solid career in Romania.
• The main three factors that would convince them to stay: modern working conditions, predictable incomes and a system without informal pressures and without corruption”, Baciu said on Facebook.
According to the deputy, the data show that “that the challenges are not only about salaries”, but also “of respect, trust, predictability, the way we train future doctors and the way the system works on a daily basis.”
He explained that the study was done “to put reality on the table, not perceptions.”
“In order to start, on a solid basis, the legislative changes that are needed for young doctors to choose Romania – not out of obligation, but because the system becomes one in which they can have a future.
And I say this from my own experience. I left Romania as a young doctor, I practiced and studied abroad, I saw systems that work and I learned a lot.
I came back precisely because I know that what I saw there can be done here too – if we listen to the younger generations and if we have the courage to change what needs to be changed”, add this one.
