Simion accuses the Romanian authorities in the case of the theft of the Dacian treasure in the Netherlands: “It shows a lack of interest”

George Simion, the leader of the AUR, says of the theft of the Dacian treasure exhibited at the museum in the Netherlands that it is “a direct attack on our history and national identity.”

“The theft of the treasures from the Dacian treasury exhibited at the State Museum in the Netherlands is a direct attack on our history and national identity. The loss of some priceless artefacts, such as the famous helmet from Coţofeneşti, demonstrates not only the vulnerability of our cultural heritage, but also the lack of interest of the Romanian authorities in protecting it”, says AUR leader George Simion.

About the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, under the leadership of Emil Hureazeanu, he stated that he acted without a real strategy for the recovery of the goods, and therefore he is requesting the resignation of the Romanian ambassador in The Hague and the entire leadership of the ministry.

“While the Netherlands criticizes Romania for the lack of security at the borders – the reason why we were kept on the edge of Schengen for years in a row -, we now see how a country considered a so-called example of security was not able to ensure protection exhibits of inestimable value. If even a prestigious museum in Western Europe cannot ensure the security of our treasures, then who should?”Simion wonders.

The AUR leader considers that this situation should be “an alarm signal for the Romanian authorities”, who “have ignored investments in culture and heritage for years”.

The National Museum of History in Bucharest has been closed for over 20 years for endless repairs, while relics of crucial importance for our people are walking around the world, without adequate protection measures. It is not the first time that Romania loses its heritage due to the incompetence of the political class.

The Gojdu legacy was handed over to Hungary, and our authorities were powerless, unable to defend the will of the great Romanian philanthropist. Now, we are facing a new blow to the national identity, and the politicians at the top of the country are more concerned with their own interests than with protecting Romania’s historical values”, declares Simion.

That is why he declares that AUR will continue to fight for the protection of Romania’s cultural heritage.

We recall that on Saturday morning, January 25, there was an explosion at the Drents Museum in Assen, Holland, as part of a robbery. Among the stolen artifacts are the Coțofenești Helmet and Dacian bracelets.

The MAE specified that the Romanian embassies in all neighboring countries were alerted to ask for support from the competent authorities.
