Around the Dobrogean dragon, the largest snake in Romania, were created several frightening legends. Although it is non -venous, it moves quite slowly and feeds on rodents, birds and their eggs, in the stories of the locals, he gets apocalyptic apes: he has a length of over two meters and has attacked large animals, even deer.

Specialists say that this snake is a special one from more points of view.

In Romania, the mating takes place in June-July. During this period, these snakes hold a characteristic “bridal post”. The female lays from four to 16 eggs, which hatch after a few months. It was observed that females take care of the descendants, a phenomenon rarely encountered among snakes. When attacked, the Dobrogean dragon whistles or puffs.
