SOURCES: Nicolae Ciucă announces the political break with Marcel Ciolacu and prepares PNL to take over local administrations

The President of the National Liberal Party (PNL), Nicolae Ciucă, said during the meeting of the National Political Bureau (BPN) on Friday that the party is entering a new stage, focused on the preparation of the takeover of local administrations, including the positions of presidents of county councils, mayors and counselors.

Ciucă emphasized the importance of this process for the future of the political formation and asked his colleagues to treat this objective seriously.

“The party is in the period in which the takeover of local administrations is being prepared, from CJ presidents, municipal mayors, cities, communes, county and local councilors”, stated Ciucă. The PNL leader added that involvement in the implementation of campaign promises and the continuation of public policies must be a priority. “Practically, everything we will do from here on must be done from the day we take office. To feel the involvement in what it means to fulfill what was assumed in the campaign and to continue local public administration policies, as we were taught as the only administration model that performed in Romania“, he said.

Strengthening right-wing majorities and gender equality

In the same context, Ciucă emphasized the need to consolidate right-wing majorities at the level of local councils, a strategic priority for the party.

“Please consider the achievement of right-wing majorities. What we are also following at the Capital City Hall, we are already having discussions. It’s about responsibility”said the PNL president, quoted by sources close to the discussions.

At the same time, the liberal leader asked his colleagues to pay attention to gender equality in the process of selecting and appointing candidates, expressing his appreciation for the work of women in the PNL.

“The women’s organization is a force, and the ladies we had from the Government, in leadership positions in the other structures, carried out a remarkable activity. We must take into account this assumption of the party in terms of the representation of ladies and gentlemen at the level of politics in the PNL“, pointed out Nicolae Ciucă.

The break with Marcel Ciolacu: “Politically, trust no longer exists”

In a tense note, the PNL president declared that any political understanding between him and Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu has ended, accusing the latter of actions that undermined the partnership between the two political formations.

I said at the beginning of the meeting. From this moment on, everything that means political agreements between me and Marcel Ciolacu no longer exists“, said Ciucă.

Nicolae Ciucă referred to a series of decisions taken by the prime minister without consulting the PNL, including the negotiations regarding the European commissioner’s portfolio and the reforms related to military pensions.

“Over time, there have been other gestures that undermined trust within this partnership. I would like to mention, from a recent date, the Prime Minister’s decision to negotiate the portfolio of European Commissioner for Romania without consulting the PNL. Also related to pensions for military personnel“, added the liberal leader.

However, Ciucă emphasized that the government will continue for the stability of the country, but stressed that, from a political point of view, the relationship of trust with the PSD has irreparably deteriorated.

“The government is moving forward for the stability of the country, but politically trust no longer exists. The PNL will carry out its activity within the government and will be extremely careful and demanding not to allow waste and electoral gestures on Romanians’ money“, concluded Nicolae Ciucă in front of his colleagues.
