Flamingo birds rarely reach Romania, especially in the southeastern part of the country and we usually find them in very small numbers.

According to the administration of the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve, the species is nesting in the Mediterranean basin, with the colonies closest to Romania in Greece, Turkey or Montenegro.

They feed on algae, and the pink feather is due to the large amount of carotenoids that ingest it from the consumption of crustaceans found in the salt lakes.

The birds are in migration and during the formation of pairs, and the stop areas for feeding are shallow waters.

There are birds that live in colonies made up of hundreds of copies, they lay a single egg that they care about both parents.

Ornithologists say not to disturb them and keep distance from them because they are afraid of people in particular.

In Romania, the bird appears very rarely, especially in the south-east of the country, in small numbers, the first signal here being in 1900. Several flamingo specimens were observed in other nesting areas of the Danube Delta.
