Ştefan Radu is at the center of a scandal in Italy, after he wore Nazi insignia at the AS Roma – Lazio derby, score 1-0, in the 31st round of Serie A. This fact would probably have been reported earlier easy with the press view from the peninsula, but the Romanian was also involved in a similar episode 12 years ago, when he did the Nazi salute in front of the Lazio supporters.
Gazetta dello Sport writes about Stefan Radu's gesture
Ştefan Radu retired from football last year, after writing history for Lazio. He is the record holder for the most matches played in Lazio's jersey (427) and for the most matches played for the Romanian team in Serie A (349). Adored by Lazio fans, the Romanian saw the Derby della Capitale from among the ultras and posted the images on his Instagram account.
Journalists from Gazzetta dello Sport caught a detail that can give the former footballer a lot of trouble. “Radu did it again: at the derby he wore an ultras jersey that was visible symbols with a clear reference to Nazism“, gazzetta.it captioned. On the images you can see SS Lazio written on the clothes worn by the Romanian, the two letters “S” being written with Nazi symbols.

In 2012, Ştefan Radu was investigated by the Disciplinary Commission of the Italian Federation after allegedly giving the Nazi salute in front of the Lazio fans during a match against Napoli. He received support from the club and was acquitted. “The Federal Prosecutor referred Lazio football player Ştefan Radu to the Disciplinary Commission, because he greeted his fans with his right hand raised and outstretched, just like the Nazi salute. Also, a disciplinary procedure was initiated against the club for its responsibility in this case“, it was stated in the Commission's press release at the time, which forgave the Romanian.
