Students have access, starting this week, to tickets and train subscriptions that they can finally buy online. The “miracle” happens after three months of suspending the platform.

Train tickets and subscriptions can be purchased through the app available on the CFR Călatori website, from the mobile application or from the Sale Sales in the stations, according to a statement sent by the CFR.
The new condition by which students get discount on train tickets
However, the new procedure for obtaining 90% reduced tickets requires a significant change: the student ID, necessary to validate the reduction of 90% of the ticket price on the house-school route can no longer be obtained by validation by the faculties, but only directly from the ticket offices of CFR Călaturi.
In order to obtain this ID, the students must personally come to the counter, with the identity card and the student card. The discounts are applied exclusively for the trips between the locality of the home and that of the higher education institution to which the student is registered, according to GEO no. 156/2024. In the train, passengers will have to present both the discount ticket and the student card.
The Ordinance “Trenuleț” cut the student ticket discounts
The Ordinance “Travel”, which brought fiscal-budgetary measures for 2025, introduced restrictions on student transport facilities. Specifically, the 90% discounts for railway transport are available exclusively on the route between the locality and the city where the university is, eliminating other routes from the list of eligible ones.
Regarding the local public transport, the 90% discounts for the bus and the subway only apply to the locality where the university is located, eliminating the possibility of benefiting from these discounts in other areas.

“Today, March 5, 2025, CFR Călatorii provides students with the possibility of buying online tickets and subscriptions with 90% discount through the application available on the website www.cfrcalatori.ro or downloadable on mobile devices (smartphone, tablet, etc.), as well as from the KiOSK selling machines from the railway stations.
The tickets and subscriptions with a reduction of 90% are issued on the distance/routes between the locality and the locality in which the higher education institution is located to which the student is registered, under the conditions provided in art. XXIX para. (1) of GEO no. 156/2024, based on student ID, issued to confirm the quality of student and the route for which they benefit from discount.
In order to obtain the student ID, it is necessary for the students to present once at any ticket office during the work schedule, with the identity card and the student card for transport reduction.
On the train, students will present the discount travel card (ticket, subscription) and student card for transport reduction.
