The National Alliance of Student Organizations of Romania (ANOSR) announced that students will organize protests on September 29, at the beginning of the academic year. The demonstrations are scheduled in Bucharest and five other major university centers: Timișoara, Cluj-Napoca, Iași, Galați and Suceava.
The calendar of protests
* Bucharest – 4:00 pm, Victoriei Square
* Timișoara – 2:00 pm, Victoriei Square
* Cluj-Napoca-11: 30–13: 00, in front of the Prefecture
* Iasi – 1:00 pm in front of the Prefecture
* Galati – 6:00 pm, Unirii Square
* Suceava – 1:00 pm, body esplanade of the “Stefan cel Mare” University
ANOSR argues that the measures adopted by Law no. 141/2025 and GEO no. 156/2024 have a negative impact on the quality of education and limit access to education.
“Students from all over the country feel negative effects of the austerity measures provided by Law no. 141/2025 and GEO 156/2024 that affect the quality of the education in Romania and limit the access to the education of the direct beneficiaries. Thus, the students from the largest university centers in the country join the protests organized by ANOSR in Bucharest and go out on 29.09.2025 to show their dissatisfaction with an ignorance-based government system ”, shows the ANOSR statement.
“I have repeatedly emphasized the fact that the cutting of transport facilities, followed by the cutting funds, have a small economic impact, but produce social effects from a social point of view that affect, in particular, students in vulnerable socio-economic situations. These tutors do nothing but increase and encourage the students who will not be able to Superior, a phenomenon that Romania has assumed to fight.
We will not stop telling us publicly and waiting for the whole student community to go out with us on 29.09.2025 to do the same. We are tired not to be consulted, not to count what we believe and say and to hit ignorance and arrogance ”, Anosr states on his Facebook page.
Meeting with the Minister of Education
The students’ dissatisfaction was emphasized after the August 19th meeting, within the National Forum of Student Organizations, where the Minister of Education, Daniel David, discussed with ANOSR representatives and recommended to take a job.
Asked by a student who should do after the reduction of scholarships and subsidies for transport, the minister replied: “First of all, I would address the University for support. Even if the mechanism is not yet created, I would address the faculty and the department for the support. I do not want to upset you, but maybe I would think about taking a part-time job.
Mobilization broad at the beginning of the academic year
The minister’s reply was interpreted by many students as a lack of real solutions. In this context, the protests announced for September 29 become a strong signal of the young generation, which express their dissatisfaction with the austerity measures that directly affect them, but also the educational act.
