Cancers are usually – especially because no one thinks of a 19-20-year-old or, say, a female patient up to 30 years old to look for a cause, a malignant tumor for symptoms – detected quite early late. They are detected in advanced stages, stage 3, stage 4, many times. And even if they are detected relatively early, say, in the operable and treatable stages, they have many biological markers that show aggressiveness. And, unfortunately, the prognosis is quite poor and reserved for young people who are diagnosed with cancer“, said doctor Alexandru Onofrei, Monday evening, on Medika TV, quoted by News.ro.

The surgeon noted that the number of cases diagnosed in patients between the ages of 18 and 40 has greatly increased.

Obviously, a large part of these patients have, as the cause of cancer, a genetic mutation. (…) But there are studies that say that including the exposure of mothers to certain carcinogens during pregnancy, there are mothers who, unfortunately, sometimes still smoke, sometimes still consume alcohol, plus a bad diet, stress, because a lot mothers are forced to go to work until close to giving birth. Plus, unfortunately, young people are much more exposed to certain carcinogens, such as alcohol and smoking”, said Alexandru Onofrei.

The doctor also talked about the importance of vitamin D. He recommended that each person take at least 2,000 units of vitamin D per day.

Vitamin D has recently been considered more than a vitamin, it is considered a hormone that helps a lot with immunity. As an idea, some tests were done, some doctors took it upon themselves and did tests on some patients during the time of COVID. The most serious and those who died, most of them, had almost undetectable levels of vitamin D. So even those of us who still go outside and walk should still supplement, even all year round“, Alexandru Onofrei also declared, for the quoted source.

The doctor also draws attention to the negative effects of alcohol consumption among young people.

It is precisely the time when the brain develops, when it makes the most connections, when it should rather learn and store a level of information and some good habits to fight with itself and try to progress and unfortunately alcohol is what holds you back and even sets you back in whatever you feel you need to progress. Instead of wanting to progress, you actually regress“, he explained.
