More than half of Romanians are of the opinion that the future president of Romania should be a political leader independent of parties, according to a realistic poll by INSCOP commissioned by News.ro.

More precisely, 54.4% of Romanians are of the opinion that the future president of Romania should be a political leader independent of political parties, while 38.7% believe that he should be the representative of a political party. 4.6% are undecided, and 2.2% do not answer.

Regarding age groups, I think that the future president of Romania should be an independent political leader 54% of 18-29 year olds 58% of 30-44 year olds, 59% of those with age 45-59 and 49% of those over 60.
The same opinion is shared by 57% of Bucharest residents, 58% of residents of cities with over 90 thousand inhabitants, 60% of residents of cities with less than 90 thousand inhabitants and 49% of rural residents.
When it comes to parties, 55% of PSD voters, 49% of PNL voters, 48% of AUR voters and 35% of USR voters want a president who is the representative of a political party.

“A party-independent president seems to be a more desirable profile for the Romanian population, compared to a party representative. Regardless of the age category or the type of locality in which they live, Romanians have a stronger preference for a party-independent president. The only categories in which the opinions are more balanced are the population over 60 years old and the inhabitants of rural areas”said Remus Ştefureac, director of INSCOP Research.
The opinion poll was carried out by INSCOP Research at the behest of News.ro Press Agency. The data were collected between June 19 and 27, 2024, by the CATI method (telephone interviews), the volume of the simple, stratified sample being 1100 people, representative of the significant socio-demographic categories (sex, age, occupation) for the non-institutionalized population of Romania , aged 18 and over. The research method is interview through the questionnaire. The maximum allowed error of the data is ± 2.95%, at a confidence level of 95%.
