According to data provided by Vola.roonline tourism platform specialized in air tickets and accommodation reservations, on February 14, 2025, there was an increase of over 30% of reservations compared to the rest of the month, and the average price paid for in love for a romantic getaway was 132 euros of the person.
If Milan and Rome were the classic choices for Valentine’s Day and Dragobete, this year, more and more passengers opted for unique destinations. From the hypnotizing show of the Aurora Boreale in Rovaniemi to the charm of the city of Stavanger, the Romanians combined romance with adventure, exploring new and fascinating places.
In addition, Dragobetele is gaining more and more land among the holidays of love, which also reflected in travel reservations, which have registered an impressive growth – six times larger than last year. Four times higher was the demand for Istanbul, compared to last year.

From the bohemian charm of Paris to the romance of the Venetian gondolas, the big European cities were, this year, the perfect decoration for Valentine’s Day getaway. The top destinations chosen by Romanians were Milan, Paris, Istanbul, Venice and Vienna. And, surprise! Some lovers found incredible offers: a Cluj-Napoca-Brussels flight cost only 31 euros!
But not only Valentine’s Day took the Romanians out of the country! Dragobetele, the authentic holiday of love, has slightly changed the ranking of preferences. The most popular destinations were Rome (15%of reservations), Milan (13%) and Venice (11%), followed by Paris and Athens.

Regarding the general trends, Italy, France, Turkey, Austria and Spain were the most sought after countries for Valentine’s Day, while Dragobete, Romanians opted for Italy, Spain, France, Greece and Portugal.
Compared to the same period last year, the demand for travel exploded: Dragobete reservations increased by 600%, and Valentine’s Day, with 233%!
A spectacular leap also registered Istanbul, with an increase of 400%, due to the new facilities that allow Romanians to travel to Turkey only with the bulletin, without the need for a passport.

In addition to the classic destinations, the lovers chose this year and unique places for their romantic escapades. Rovaniemi, Lapland, was the perfect destination of Valentine’s Day for those who wanted to admire the magic show of Aurora Boreale, while Stavanger, Norway, became the ideal choice of Dragobete, thanks to its impressive landscapes and picturesque architecture.
If Rovaniemi is already well known for his fairy tale atmosphere, Stavanger impresses with his uniqueness. The city is the gateway to the famous Precikestolen (Pulpit Rock), an imposing rock at 604 meters above the Lysefjord Fjord, one of the most spectacular natural formations in Norway. The Old Center, Gamle Stavanger, nicknamed the city of white houses, houses the largest set of wooden houses in North Europe, many of them dating from the eighteenth century.
And because romance can be found on the beach, even in Norway, Stavanger is proud of some of the most beautiful sand stretches, such as Sola Beach, ideal for surfing and west walks. How much does a romantic escape of Valentine’s and Dragobete
Calculated romance-this could be summed up the budget allocated by Romanians for February getaway. By Valentine’s Day, the lovers paid, on average, 132 euros for a return ticket, while for Dragobete, the amount was slightly higher, reaching 141 euros.
Good news? The prices were more friendly than last year, when a Valentine’s ticket costs 143 euros, and one of Dragobete reached 173 euros.
The lucky ones found incredible offers: only 31 euros for a flight Cluj-Napoca-Brussels by Valentine’s Day and 53 euros for Cluj-Napoca-Milan of Dragobete.
On the other hand, the Romanians who chose more exclusive destinations paid considerable amounts, such as 304 euros for a Bucharest – Athens ticket and 388 euros for Bucharest – Innsbruck.
Regardless of the budget, one thing is certain: love is celebrated this year through travel! Romanians become more and more inspired in choosing destinations, and February promises to be a month full of adventures, surprises and unforgettable moments!
