The Universitatea Craiova football team chose, this evening, the successor of coach Mirel Rădoi, who left after the defeat at home against UTA Arad, in the 16th round. It is about a foreign technician, as the management of the Banie group had announced. His name, however, had not been circulated.
“Science” stopped at the name of Filipe Coelho (45 years old), with whom he hopes to win the title he has been chasing since 1991.

Filipe Coelho does not have a long coaching career and at club level he has only managed Leixoes (July 2016 – November 2016), Casa Pia (September 2015 – June 2016) and Vilafranquense (July 2013 – September 2015 / November 2016 – December 2017).
Coelho’s last head coaching position was at Vilafranquense itself, which he left in December 2017, which is about 8 years ago.
Afterwards, the Portuguese was assistant coach at Chongqing Liangjiang Athletic (December 2017 – July 2018) and at the national teams of South Korea (August 2018 – December 2022) and the United Arab Emirates (July 2023 – March 2025).
Before introducing Coelho, the University of Craiova’s list also included Daniel Sousa, former member of Andre Villas-Boas’ staff at Coimbra, Porto, Chelsea, Tottenham, Zenit, Shanghai Port and Marseille, Rui Jorge, former Portugal U21 coach, and Sandro Perkovic, coach of Noah, Olten’s opponent in the Conference League.
Craiova is in 4th place in the championship, 6 points behind the leader Rapid. Rădoi’s second mandate in Craiova lasted 10 months.
