Today, Telegram faced another large-scale outage that affected users worldwide. Moreover, this is the second major outage in the last three days. On Thursday, a large-scale outage of the messaging service lasted for more than an hour, during which residents of countries on different continents complained of problems with the service. The reasons for the failure are still unclear, experts say.
Complaints about the Telegram outage started coming in after 1:40 p.m. Kyiv time, according to Downdetector data. The messaging app started to recover after 3:00 p.m.
According to the service’s charts, residents of Europe, Asia, North America and Africa have complained about problems in the messenger’s activity. At the same time, in African states they complained about breakdowns less actively than in European, Asian and North American countries. In South American countries, there were almost no complaints about problems with Telegram, according to the service’s data.
In Ukraine, users reported the inability to connect to messenger, download chats, send and receive messages, and upload video and audio files.
At this time it is not known exactly what caused the international plume, due to the lack of available information.
“It usually depends on one of two things: a problem with the hardware the messaging app runs on (Telegram’s servers) or with the network settings of the offline systems Telegram has. There is not enough information to say more yet“, expert Stanislav Shakirov told The Agency.
Telegram’s previous large-scale outage occurred on Tuesday.
