The leadership of PNL Prahova validated Iulian Dumitrescu to run for a new mandate as head of the CJ, although he is under judicial control and investigated for corruption. Instead, the management at the center hesitates to say whether they still support him or whether they will come up with another candidate.

“PNL Prahova decided: Iulian Dumitrescu, the candidate of the liberals for the presidency of the County Council and Bogdan Nica, the PNL candidate for Ploiești City Hall. The PNL mayors from Prahova support Dumitrescu's candidacy“, is the announcement from a press release of the PNL Prahova leadership.
“They are important and big projects that never existed after the Revolution. For everything, we worked long and hard, together, as a team. They were possible thanks to a good and efficient collaboration between the territorial administrative units and the County Council led by Iulian Dumitrescu. At this moment, Prahova cannot afford administrative experiments and the costs of some blockages are absolutely huge. Our county needs continuity“, it is stated in the open letter of the PNL mayors from Prahova”, also states the said communique, signed by the organization led by Iulian Dumitrescu, who is now under criminal investigation in a case for bribery and false statements, and is now under judicial control .
Nicolae Ciucă, the head of the PNL, avoided saying directly whether the party leadership would support him or not. “Today we did not validate the candidates at the Prahova branch, as such, as we did for the 21 branches and the two sectors in Bucharest, we will proceed with an analysis for each branch and each candidate separately. First, the proposal must come from the subsidiary. At the level of the political leadership are the other elements of analysis that we will consider and take into account when we make the decision“, declared Nicoale Ciucă.
In the PNL, opinions are divided regarding the support of Iulian Dumitrescu for a new mandate. And the main argument is that the PNL will face image problems when the party's leaders will go hand in hand with a person accused by the DNA of taking a bribe of around 16 million lei. There are also behind-the-scenes games in which certain leaders do not want Dumitrescu following political disputes, not necessarily those related to criminal issues.
PSD has its own candidate
Marcel Ciolacu stated, on Thursday, that his party has its own candidate in Prahova. “I do not support Mr. Iulian Dumitrescu and neither PSD. PSD will not support Iulia Dumitrescu. PSD has its own candidate Mr. Nanu (Virgiliu Daniel Nanu, president of PSD Prahova and prefect of Prahova county – no) for the head of the Prahova County Council and he will win the head of the County Council“, the prime minister declared, at the end of the party leadership meeting on Thursday at the Parliament Palace.
