Terrible moments for Luxembourg’s national youth. 32 footballers overturned the bus: “They were shocked”

Luxembourg’s national youth team was to evolve in a qualifying match for Euro 2027, against those in France, this Friday.

The match was canceled and rescheduled by emergency, after the group was involved in a bus accident on the way to Lorient, where the duel with the French was to be played.

The bus entered a ditch, after the driver was hurt at the wheel.

“The 53 -year -old bus driver has been working in this position and has no background of road accidents.!the bus company said.

The match was rescheduled for October 3, 2026, according to the decision of both federations.

“We show them all their support and hope for a quick recovery of the members of the Luxembourg delegation, who were injured and shocked, as well as the bus driver!said the president of the French Football Federation, Philippe Diallo.

“A player gave the alarm, he started screaming!”

The driver passed the tests of alcohol and drugs, and the vehicle he was driving had passed a technical inspection in July 2025, according to Luxembourg Times.

At the time of the impact, the bus was traveling on N24, near the Langidic municipality, between Lorient and Rennes. The vehicle left the road, hit the ditch and overturned, slipping with the right side glued to the terrace. Several players have been stuck.

“We had just returned from training on the eve of the match at the Moustoir Stadium in Lorient. A player gave the alarm, seeing the bus turning dangerously toward the land. I was traveling at a normal speed between 80 km and 90 km/h. We continued to go about 50 meteri.

The jams of the vehicle exploded, and the pieces were spread inside. Some of the 32 Luxembourg footballers were injured, including the goalkeeper, Laurent Mond.

According to the French press, a red code intervention plan was triggered for managing a high number of possible victims. The passengers were evacuated by the firefighters through the driver’s door, starting with it.

The Luxembourg delegation was transported within a Langid community hall, made available by the local authorities. The young footballers were protagonists in a traumatic episode.

“We stayed there between 30 and 40 minutes. Time to evaluate everyone’s condition and try to achieve what we just went through. It was very shocking for everyone!Hilger said.

Although eight injured people were reported on Thursday evening, only the worst affected in the Luxembourg delegation, two players and two staff members, were transported to the Scorff Hospital in Lorient.

“They were discharged around 2:00, with a few bandages, after which they returned to the hotel by taxi!Hliger said.
