The A8 highway, at a critical point: major risk that the mountain sector will be left without funding for expropriations

The A8 Ungheni–Iași–Târgu Mureș highway is at a critical point, there is a major risk that the mountain sector will run out of funding for expropriations, which could affect the project’s execution schedule. The warning was launched by the leader of PNL Iași, Alexandru Muraru, who asked the Minister of Transport for an explanation regarding the recorded delays.

Alexandru Muraru claims that the procedures for the sections in Iași county, respectively Târgu Frumos – Lețcani – Ungheni, are running without permission and warns that the lack of quick decisions could turn 2026 into a lost year for Autostrada Unirii.

“We are at a critical point for Autostrada Unirii (A8). There is a major risk that the mountain sector will be left without funding for expropriations in this year’s budget. Furthermore, the procedures for the sections in Iași county are dragging on without permission. If we do not act now, 2026 will be a lost year”. said Alexandru Muraru.

According to him, delays can lead to the blocking of the execution calendar and, worse, to the loss of strategic European funds through the SAFE program.

The leader of PNL Iași appealed to the PSD MPs from the county and the local branch of the party to support the A8 Highway project and to avoid any action that could affect its implementation.

“The Minister of Transport is from PSD, and Moldova and Iași deserve certainty. We need a budget for 2026 that explicitly includes money for design and expropriations in the mountain area”Muraru also stated.

At the same time, he announced that he requested, on Wednesday, the Minister of Transport, the inclusion in the budget for 2026 of the amounts necessary for the expropriations on the mountain sector of the A8, as well as the establishment of a calendar “assumed” for the signing of contracts on the Târgu Frumos – Lețcani – Ungheni section.
