Valery Kuzmin, the Russian ambassador to Romania, completed his mission and left for Moscow for good. Elena Kopnina is the interim Chargé d'affaires of the Russian Federation in Romania, according to an announcement from the Embassy.

“Today, His Excellency Valery Kuzmin, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation in Romania, completed his diplomatic mission and left permanently for Moscow. Until the arrival of the new Ambassador, Mrs. Minister-Counselor Elena Kopnina is in Charge of Affairs of the Russian Federation in Romania”the Russian Embassy sent on Facebook.
The retirement of Valery Kuzmin comes after the diplomat's wife died, a few days ago, at the official residence in Bucharest.
According to some sources, the diplomat's wife had a fever, complained of feeling unwell, and later went into cardiorespiratory arrest.
Valeri Kuzmin, born on June 24, 1953 in Moscow, was appointed ambassador of the Russian Federation to Romania in 2016.
