George Simion, the golden leader, is applying again for the presidential elections, after the failure of last autumn, when he ranked fourth, with almost 14%, although most of the opinion polls were among the favorites for the presidential final. In addition, in the parliamentary elections, held one week after the first round of the presidential election, gold exceeded 18%.
Therefore, the party obtained more than four percent than its leader. The result aroused criticism inside gold. MEP Claudiu Late, the second man in the party’s power hierarchy, reproached Simion that he is “electoral anti-locomotive” and asked for resignation, political sources from the management of the formation. George Simion did not resign, but announced that he no longer enters the race for Cotroceni after the November election. The gold leader expressed his support for Călin Georgescu, the revelation of the previous election. But the CCR blocked Călin Georgescu’s candidacy for the May elections.
Consequently, in order not to dispel the votes of the sovereignist electorate, George Simion has entered the electoral competition again with the declared support of the gold parties and can, but also with the support of Călin Georgescu, for the time being publicly enclosed.
What final would Simion win
George Simion goes to the new electoral race as a favorite for the second round, all the opinion polls appeared in the public space shows. Simion managed to transfer a good part of the sovereignian dowry gathered by Călin Georgescu. Currently, it is quoted at 30%, at a distance of almost 10 percent from the platoon formed by Nicușor Dan, Crin Antonescu and Victor Ponta. In fact, Simion also changed the electoral strategy. If in the fall he was present in all communication environments – online, TV, podcasts, debates – this time Simion avoids over -exposure, say the sources quoted. The reason? There are two currents of opinion between sociologists. The first: George Simion will lightly enter the second round, but will lose the final regardless of counter-candidate, according to the model Iliescu versus Vadim Tudor since 2000.
Second scenario: George Simion can be imposed in the second round according to rival. Sources from the Gold leadership claim that Simion would like a final with Nicușor Dan. Why? “Because, of all the candidates, Nicușor Dan would receive in the final the fewest votes from the PSD. That would be Simion’s chance. The hardest would be with Victor Ponta, our calculations show”, I say the sources quoted.
Who is the Gold Prime Minister
If he wins the presidential competition, George Simion will force the fall of the Ciolacu government and the formation of a sovereign majority. The parliamentary mathematics shows that Simion will either install a minority government, or will make a gold-psd alliance, because a majority without social-democrats is impossible. The golden proposal for the Victoria Palace is, officially, Senator Petrișor Peiu, but George Simion wants Prime Minister Lulea, the first vice-president of Gold and his former employer, say sources from the party for truth. Also, one of the variants of the prime minister would be Călin Georgescu. Although the CCR forbidden the presidential candidacy, Georgescu can be appointed prime minister by the future president.
If he loses, George Simion could continue as a gold president. Last days, the leadership of the party, made up mostly from George Simion’s relatives, voted that the current leader would remain at the forefront of the formation regardless of the presidential result. On the other hand, there are also voices in the party challenging Simion.
“Let’s see the result first. If you do not enter the second round, it is clear that it has to resign. If he loses the final, it depends on how he loses it. If there will be two or three percent difference, no one can overturn it, it will have several million votes in the back. If there are ten percent difference, otherwise the problem arises”, I say the sources quoted. One of those who want the chief of Gold is Claudiu Late, MEP and a founding member of the party. Currently, late and Simion are at knives.
