“The Romanian Orthodox Church is not indifferent to Romania’s present and future, but defends and promotes in society the values of the Christian faith and European democracy, for the good of the Romanian people“, transmitted the BOR.

In this sense, as the first signatory of “Declaration of cults for Romania’s integration into the European Union” from May 16, 2000, Romanian Orthodox Church “reaffirms the firm commitment to Romania’s membership in the European Union, a space of prosperity and cooperation between the peoples of Europe, whose founding fathers were deeply anchored in Christianity”.

BOR also points out that, according to article 7 paragraph 1 of Law no. 489/2006 on religious freedom and the general regime of cults, cults are “factors of social peace”.

BOR: The Romanian people need prosperity

“The Holy Synod decided, repeatedly, starting in 2008, that the bishop, priest, deacon, monk and nun of the Romanian Orthodox Church are prohibited from doing partisan politics or participating in electoral campaigns as a supporter(s). Thus, the Romanian Orthodox Church clearly affirms its neutrality during election campaigns, similarly to the Romanian Army”. emphasized the Romanian Orthodox Church.

Electoral option of clerics “must be expressed only by secret personal vote, and not by political partisanship, as active military personnel are prohibited from publicly expressing their political opinions, from being part of political parties, formations or organizations, from carrying out propaganda through any means or activities in favor of them or of a candidate for public office”.

In conclusion, BOR claims, “the Romanian people need, at the same time, freedom and unity, prosperity and stability”.
