The first results of the investigation on the road accident that caused the death of the Liverpool team attacker, Diogo Jota (28 years old), and his brother, last week in Spain, indicates a “significant exceedance of the speed limit”, the Civil Guard, quoted by AFP, announced on Tuesday.
Diogo Jota was leading a Lamborghini
The expert report is still “in the process of elaboration” and will focus in particular on the “traces left” by one of the vehicle’s wheels, but “it all indicates a significant exceeding of the speed with respect to the authorized limit”, said the Civil Guard.
Most likely, Diogo Jota was driving the car at the time of the accident, which took place on the night of June 25 to 26, the same source said.
The 28-year-old Portuguese international and his younger brother, Andre, 26, also a professional footballer, in the second Portuguese league, died in the accident on a highway in the province of Zamora, northwestern Spain. The two brothers were already dead when emergency services arrived.
Their vehicle, a leased Lamborghini, according to the Portuguese press, “left the road” before setting fire, said the Civil Guard, the equivalent of the gendarmerie, the day after the accident.
Diogo Jota, who had married her long -lasting partner and the mother of her three children about ten days before the accident, was to travel to Liverpool with the ferry ferry, in northern Spain, when the accident suffered. According to the press reports, it was recommended not to fly due to recent lung operation.
The funerals of the two brothers took place on Saturday in Gondomar, near Porto, northern Portugal.
After spending several seasons at Wolverhampton, Diogo Jota was transferred to Liverpool in 2020 for 49 million euros.
