The Olympic champion at swimming David Popovici (21 years old, on September 15) said on Monday that he is disappointed in postponing the start of the modernization of the basin covered from the “Lia Manoliu” Sports Complex and the fact that with the coming of the cold season he will have to train inside a ball.

“Also with disappointment I can find me today about the basin from ‘Lia Manoliu’, because there have been not much steps in connection with the interior basin, which needs great renovation. Winter comes, the balloon and air comes in which I managed to perform. But I am absolutely convinced that if we had top conditions, as in other countries or other cities in Romania, many more children would have the chance to compete. I will start the workouts in two to three weeks. Now I didn’t stay as much as I stayed after the Olympic Games, but it was enough time to miss routine“, Said Popovici.
He said, however, that he was surprised to find that there are more and more children who have turned their attention to swimming.
“Compared to five years ago, I am quite positive, it seems to me that there are more children who play sports, as if I see more children moving, playing sports. The more I am glad to see them coming to the pool. It is nice to hear bazaine patrons telling me by my results that they no longer take place for children“Popovici added.
After the success of Paris 2024, the swimmer David Popovici stated that he would like his gold and bronze medals conquered at the Olympic Games to bring more investments in sports halls. Occasion with which he received many promises that things will change for the better.
The athlete then explained that it is not normal to suffocate at the training he performs at the basin in the “Lia Manoliu” complex in winter, when it is covered with a balloon.

Over 1,300 natural persons and several companies joined the call of the Olympic champion David Popovici, who, together with the Hope and Homes for Children Foundation, managed to raise a total of 105,900 euros for children and young people from the scholarships program, who excel in sports, science or art, despite the difficulties.
