Moldova. Andrei Pascu, a 38-year-old resident of Iași, returned to his hometown after working for 13 years in IT in a company in Berlin.

How he ended up working abroad

He left shortly after completing his studies, when, he says, the market in Iași was not so developed and salaries in Western Europe were considerably higher than those in Romania.

When I left I was about 25 years old, I had finished college and my master's degree almost two years ago. During the two years I kept applying to smaller companies in Iași, I was also employed for a period of time, I did various training courses. But the wages were low. I had friends who went abroad, programmers, they had huge salaries, especially for those times. I plucked up the courage, I went to them, in Germany, in Berlin. I applied online, on the recommendation of a friend, and took the job interview also online. The people there accepted me and I had time, a month, to report to work“, said the 38-year-old from Iași.

How he decided to return home

Even though he claims that he felt very good abroad and that he is grateful for all the experience he has accumulated, Andrei declares that he always wanted to return home, to Iași.

I didn't leave with the intention of staying there. I left with the idea of raising money and I always followed what was happening at home, in Iași. I wasn't really surprised to arrive in Iași and see all the office buildings and big name companies that appeared on the city's IT market. I have always been aware of the salaries that are offered and I can say that an experienced employee can earn amounts close to those abroad. That's what I did, I came back and got hired right away. I proceeded as when I left. I applied online, interviewed online, received the offer and contract online. I signed the contract and returned to the country. It was not difficult for me to readjust, because Iași has changed for the better when it comes to IT“, added Andrei.

He was impressed by the conditions offered by the companies in Iasi

The young man from Iași also spoke about the existing conditions in companies in Iași and believes that they are better than in many companies abroad. There is an explanation for this.

In Iași we have new office buildings, which offer state-of-the-art conditions, everything an employee needs. Everything is new here. Abroad, the companies had their respective headquarters for many years. Even if they were renovated, improved and equipped periodically, it seems that those in Iași are more complex, more modern. I think that Iasi is an important point on the IT map, because we also have universities that train thousands of young people every year. It's a field that offers satisfaction, both financially and professionally. Now and in Iași you have the opportunity to evolve, to reach reputable companies, so there is a future in this field and at home“, concluded Andrei Pascu.
