The court in Barcelona has decided to release the former Brazilian footballer Dani Alves on parole, in exchange for a bail of one million euros, pending the resolution of the appeals against the sentence that earned him a four and a half year prison sentence for violating a young women in the capital of Catalonia, at the end of 2022.

Following the decision of the panel of the Court of Barcelona, ​​where one of the judges was against the release, Alves can leave the prison if he pays the bail of one million euros, having the obligation not to leave the country and to surrender the two passports, Spanish and Brazilian , as well as to appear before the court at the established deadlines.

Alves asked, on Tuesday, the Spanish court to release him until the final sentence is pronounced. “I believe in justice, I'm not running away anywhere“, said the former international.

On Tuesday, at the end of his hearing by video conference from Brians 2 prison, where he has been imprisoned for a year, Danie Alves said that he will go “to the end” in this case, because he trusts justice.

Alves has been in pre-trial detention since January 20, 2023, after he was accused of sexually assaulting a 23-year-old woman in the Sutton nightclub in Barcelona, ​​on the night of December 30 to 31, 2022.

At the time, he was on vacation for a few days in Barcelona, ​​after participating in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar with the Brazilian team.

Section 21 of the Court of Barcelona sentenced the Brazilian international to four and a half years in prison, five years of conditional freedom and nine years of distancing from the victim, whom he must compensate with 150,000 euros for the crime of sexual assault.

Spanish prosecutors had asked for nine years in prison for Dani Alves, while the private prosecution had asked for 12 years in prison.

At the age of 40, Dani Alves is one of the most successful footballers in history. He won 23 trophies with FC Barcelona, ​​where he played between 2008 and 2016.

During his career, the Brazilian also played for Sevilla FC, Juventus Torino, Paris Saint-Germain and Sao Paulo FC, and at the time of his arrest he was under contract with the Mexican team Pumas UNAM, which fired him immediately after the accusations against him appeared.
