The decision of the director Vlad Cristache after he was proposed to extend his mandate at the Excelsior Theater, following public pressure

The director Vlad Cristache, whose interim manager of Bucharest Stelian Bujduveanu did not extend his mandate as interim manager after three and a half years, announces that he refuses the proposal to extend his mandate at the Excelsior Theater, which came after public pressure.

“I was proposed today to extend the term of office of interim manager of the Excelsior Theater… of course following yesterday’s public pressure. I will refuse the proposal because I do not want to validate this vulnerable position of interim manager that generates situations like the one in the last few days at the Excelsior Theater and endangers the activity of cultural institutions. The situation created these days clearly shows that the lack of transparent competitions can affect the operation and credibility of a theater, as well as the teams that work day by day for the activity public”, the director wrote on Facebook.

Cristache campaigns for the organization of “fair, open and transparent competitions”, being “the only legitimate framework that can guarantee continuity and professionalism in cultural management”.

He thanked all those who wrote about the Theater’s activity. “Honestly…I was overwhelmed by this outpouring of love and solidarity from you. Thank you! At the same time, I want to emphasize as clearly as possible: I do not want this situation to be used politically, to the advantage or disadvantage of any candidate or public actor. The discussion must remain one of principle: about transparency, professionalism and respect for the cultural community and the public.”

The last premiere at the Excelsior theater under his leadership was “Metamorphosis” by Franz Kafka, directed by Yuri Kordonsky.

Vlad Cristache is considered in the theater sector, but also by the public, as the one who revolutionized the repertoire and activity of the Excelsior Theatre, demonstrating performance and forming an exceptional troupe, as many actors and directors from other theaters believe.

Ciucu intervened at Bujduveanu

Ciprian Ciucu, candidate for the position of general mayor of Bucharest in Sunday’s elections, called Bujduveanu to ask him to extend Cristache’s mandate: “Mr. director Vlad Cristache had remarkable results at the head of the Excelsior Theatre. I don’t understand how he ended up in the situation that his mandate was not extended. After I found out, I called Mr. Mayor General Interim and asked him to find a solution so that Mr. Vlad Cristache could continue his activity together with his team. I come to the town hall and we start the competitions, according to the law! Our theaters need a teamstable and efficient management systems”.

And at the Metropolis Theater it was the same situation. In September, the interim manager Radu Nica’s mandate was not extended, being replaced by George Ivaşcu.
