The documentary “Borromini and Bernini. The challenge of perfection”, at the National Art Museum of Romania

The “Year of Art Films” from the National Art Museum of Romania debuted in March with the screening of “Titian. The empire of color”, sold out event, which delighted the audience of all ages and continues on Friday, June 7, from 19:00, with the screening of the documentary film “Borromini and Bernini. The challenge of perfection”.

The documentary tells the story of the famous rivalry between Borromini and Bernini

The project, carried out by Happy Cinema in partnership with the National Art Museum of Romania, invites the beauty-loving public, between March and December 2024, to a series of monthly screenings of spectacular art documentaries in the Auditorium Hall of MNAR (entrance Str. Știrbei Voda no. 1). Thus, the “Year of Art Films” brings art closer to the public, putting works of art in context and bringing to the big screen the captivating stories behind some creations that have made history.

“Borromini and Bernini. The Challenge of Perfection”

“Borromini and Bernini. The Challenge of Perfection” is a captivating documentary film that invites the audience on a journey into the great beauty of Baroque Rome, when the city was the center of Western art and where every ambitious painter, sculptor and architect had to be. This is the story of the most famous artistic rivalry of all time, that between Borromini and Bernini, but also the story of Borromini's rivalry with himself: a genius so absorbed in his art that he turns it into a demon that devours him from within, forcing him to choose death to reach eternity.

The partnership between the National Art Museum of Romania and Happy Cinema offers the public an alternative space dedicated to film screenings, such as the Auditorium Hall, as well as a memorable cultural and educational experience suitable for the whole family. Participants will have the opportunity to watch documentary films about famous painters of international fine art. This partnership represents a bridge between the worlds of cinema and the arts, and the public has the opportunity not only to enjoy outstanding cinematographic works, but also to become more deeply acquainted with the world of art in a high-class museum setting.

“The art film is a cultural product complementary to the understanding of works of art. We offer the public an opportunity to see productions of high artistic quality in a program throughout this year. We want to make the Auditorium Hall of the National Art Museum of Romania a space for exceptional art films”, declares Călin Stegerean, general director of the National Art Museum of Romania.

“We are excited about the collaboration with the National Art Museum of Romania, which brings together two distinct but complementary cultural fields. We want to give our audience the opportunity to experience and appreciate film and visual art more deeply”declares Ecaterina Mateescu, Happy Cinema administrator.
