The documentary “Without Voice”, made by the young Romanian filmmaker Alexandra Manda, is nominated in Seoul – South Korea at the Suwon International Film Festival and also selected at another festival in San Francisco – California at The World’s Independent Film Festival .
The documentary “Without Voice” begins by exploring the abuse of domestic animals, including neglect and violence against pets. Through shocking images and emotional testimonies, the film sheds light on a national but often overlooked issue: why do people abuse animals?
The story of the veteran dog Max who is abandoned by MApN and rescued by Sorina Hanea, as well as the adoption process and the hope that will save him from the disease becomes a central element of the documentary, illustrating the power of human compassion and efforts to change the destinies of animals.
Behind some trophies from international dog competitions, Luna is the puppy that helps to improve the quality of life of children with autism and improves the mood of the students of Dinu Lipatti Pitești Arts High School. The documentary also focuses on utility animals, such as dogs used by government agencies to detect drugs, explosives or missing persons. These animals perform dangerous and essential missions to protect us and save lives.

“As a soul project, made together with loyal and loving wonderful people and non-speakers, we are glad that the problem of animal abuse is not treated with indifference. When choosing the topic for the documentary film, I realized that I wanted to address this topic of animal abuse, because people are not aware that animals feel the same as humans, which was proven in the year 1980. Although some people continue to abuse animals, they still remain loyal and affectionate towards humans and are the ones we can learn from. My opinion is that if you want to know how you are as a person, look at how you treat animals. Even if they don’t have the opportunity to speak, they show us daily through deeds, empathy and loyalty the unconditional love they have for us. When they are in danger, be the voice they need to defend themselves”says Alexandra Manda.
The young filmmaker from Pitesti already has several trophies under her belt for two special documentaries.
Two years ago, Alexandra Manda won two important prizes at the Cannes World Film Festival with a superb documentary about avalanche dogs, entitled “Contra Timp”.
Also in 2023, Alexandra was awarded in America, at the Accolade Global Film Festival, a festival organized since 2003 in California, for “Mulțumim”, a disturbing documentary about Romanian veterans in the theaters of war. It was part of the ten films selected in the “Best Women Filmmaker” category, being awarded the Award of Recognition – and the trophy was all the more important, as the famous actor Liam Neeson was on the jury.
