A young British man filmed himself in Cluj while eating, for the first time in his life, several dishes of Romanian food. His reactions amused the netizens, who praised him for the way he presented Romania and traditional dishes.
“I try Romanian food for the first time in Cluj-Napoca, Romania”, is the title of the clip posted on Facebook, which has gone viral. Almost 500,000 people have seen the clip and more than 24,000 have shared it, while more than 800 have commented.
“Okay, I got to try sarmals, minis, and belly soup for the first time. Let’s go!”, said the Brit while licking his lips with lust, after which he added in Romanian: “Bon appetite!”
Arriving in the restaurant, he looked at the menu. “Sour cherry! My angel my angel“, he said in Romanian. “Luck”, he then said, also in Romanian, as he enjoyed a glass of sour cherry, after which he switched to lemonade. “Tripe soup“, he then read from the menu, also in Romanian.
“This is called Varză a la Cluj. It’s delicious You can’t describe the taste It’s very, very delicious”, he began, while there was sour cherry and brandy on the table. The sarmales followed, which received a 10 from him, as well as other Romanian specialties.
Adopted by Romanians
“You will become a fat Romanian. But you’re really cute! And the way you advertise us, I think our Romanians are also returning home. And we will also have adopted Englishmen here. Good for you!”someone wrote. “After three shots of brandy you will speak the language perfectly if”, someone else quipped. “Right, and his heart will stop instantly”, came the addition.
A Romanian from Ireland told that the Irish are also in love with Romanian food. “The Englishman is nice. Here in Dublin, only Chinese restaurants are good until I brought some Irish people to eat Romanian. After… I can’t get rid of them anymore”he commented. “I did the same in Italy“, someone wrote.
“Out of the blue, I’m going back to Cluj soon for a while. I should take some Irish people to the table with me to see the reaction”, said another Romanian from Ireland.
“You and Charlie Ottley would make a beautiful pair for Romanian tourism”
“Friend, you have become the best promoter of traditional Romanian food ever. Keep it like this. You and Charlie Ottley would make a beautiful pair for Romanian tourism, no joke!”, commented a Briton.
“Man, you are very funny, original. I always follow you. Esteem and respect. Congratulations also to your lady, the Romanian girl who teaches you everything. Now you are romanized English. You are very cool. Greetings from Manchester“, wrote a Romanian who went to Great Britain.
“I watched the whole video so fondly… It brought tears to my eyes. I’m from Cluj and I’m glad she liked it… shame on her Romania that others make fun of her”someone wrote.
“Brother, you make me miss Romanian food so much, everything looks so deliciouss,” commented another. “How come he didn’t eat mustard seeds? You are the best Romanian food promoter”, observed a netizen. “You’ll get home safely”, were just a few of the hundreds of comments.
