The extension of the M4 Metro “goes straight”. Daniel Băluță signed the order to start the works for lot 2 as well: “We are building 14 new stations”

Daniel Băluță, the mayor of Sector 4 of the Capital, signed the order to start the works for lot 2 of the largest infrastructure project in Romania carried out by a local public authority: the extension of the M4 Metro Highway.

It is a project financed with 3.5 billion euros, non-refundable European funds.

After, at the end of last year, Sector 4 of the Municipality of Bucharest signed the design and execution contract for the first batch of the M4 Main Line extension project (between the North Station and Heroes of the Revolution), the mayor of Sector 4, Daniel Băluță, recently signed the similar documents for batch 2 (between Heroes of the Revolution and Progresul Station) and issued the order to start the design and execution works, according to a press release from sector town hall.

“The design will take a maximum of 10 months, but I am convinced that we will be able to move much faster”

Daniel Băluță spoke on Sunday, February 1, during a press conference, about this project, which involves, among other things, the start of design activities for all 14 new metro stations.

Starting tomorrow, all 14 new stations planned for the M4 metro extension project will already be in the design process. In December, the design of the first lot of this project began, the one between the North Station and the Heroes of the Revolution. Now, I have signed the order to start similar works for the second lot, the one between the Heroes of the Revolution and the Progresul Station, so that the specialists of the consortium of companies that will carry out the works on this section can actually get to work. The design will take a maximum of 10 months, but I am convinced that we will be able to move much faster, as happened with other projects”explained Daniel Băluță, according to the press release.

“Exactly what Bucharest needs”

The mayor also spoke about the route that the new highway will follow between the North Station and the Progresul Station in Sector 4:

“We are building 14 new stations, from the North Station to the Progresul Station, and this new corridor is becoming the most important mobility axis of the Capital. It is the investment that takes the pressure off the central boulevards and gives the city back to the people, exactly what Bucharest needs.”

11 new kilometers

The new route will be 11 kilometers long and will cross the neighborhoods of Gara de Nord, Uranus, 13 Septembrie, Giurgiului and Progresul, going through the territory of sectors 1, 4 and 5, as well as Jilava commune, in Ilfov county.

“As I said in December, I guarantee that the start of these works will not disrupt traffic. Together with the specialists from the Bucharest City Hall, the Technical Traffic Commission, as we did in the case of the Union Plan, with representatives of the Road Brigade and together with the utility distributors, in whom I have great confidence, we will identify the best solutions so that, in the areas where work is being carried out, road and pedestrian traffic will not be affected and the discomfort for citizens be minimal”, the mayor of Sector 4 also said.

According to the mayor, the extension of the M4 Highway also has a significant economic impact. The project will generate 5,612 jobs during the execution stage and 901 permanent jobs after completion and commissioning.

“In terms of infrastructure, the metro network will grow by almost 22%, an unprecedented leap achieved in a single project. It is a project whose effects will be felt directly by people: less wasted time, less congestion, less stress. In short, a better life for all. The extension of the M4 motorway alone will, in 2040, bring 58.6 million extra journeys a year, a clear sign that we are entering a new for the Capital. We are investing 3.5 billion lei, non-reimbursable funds attracted by my team from Sector 4, to unite the north and the south of the city, a project that changes the future of urban mobility in Bucharest. However, as my team and I have demonstrated in recent years, we are delivering results will, vision and administrative discipline, we showed that big projects are neither dreams nor promises, but reality”Daniel Băluță pointed out.

“We take on this project with seriousness and respect for its importance for urban mobility”

The press conference was also attended by the representatives of the Romanian companies that will implement the works related to lot 2 of the project brought together within an association whose leader is SC Construcții Erbașu SA

“The project of Lot 2 of the M4 Highway – Heroes of the Revolution – Gara Progresul honors us and makes us equally responsible. As the leader of the association formed by established Romanian companies – Erbașu Constructions, Concelex and Bog’Art – we are convinced that the experience accumulated in over 35 years represents the solid basis for making major infrastructure investments, with a direct impact on the community.
