The fifth death case was confirmed because of the AH1 flu in Olt. DSP announces “a slight growth trend” of the number of infections

The influenza virus has made a new victim. A 79 -year -old woman died of AH1 infection, this being the fifth death registered in Olt County this cold season, representatives of the Public Health Directorate (DSP) Olt announced on Wednesday.

In all five cases, patients have been confirmed with the AH1 virus, according to DSP.

In the last week, 116 flu cases were reported in the county, of which 44 required hospitalization. Among the patients was the 79 -year -old woman, from the rural area, who was not vaccinated and suffered by other conditions.

Between February 10 and 16, 2025, Olt County also registered 873 cases of acute respiratory infections (37 hospitalized patients), as well as 381 cases of pneumonia (76 admissions).

Since the beginning of October 2024 so far, 1,258 influenza cases have been confirmed in the county: 1,187 cases of unsubstantiated influenza, 67 B flu and five cases of AH1, all death.

Moreover, DSP emphasizes that in the previous week there was “a slight growth tendency compared to the average of the last three weeks, with an extended geographical spread of the circulation of influenza viruses.”

To limit the spread of the disease, DSP Olt recommends the intensification of prevention measures in hospitals and communities, wearing the protective mask by people with symptoms of cold and flu, avoiding crowds and presenting to the doctor in case of respiratory symptoms.
