The beneficiary of the operation, a 60 -year -old woman diagnosed with multicentric hepatocarcinoma, was not eligible for a transplant from a brain -death donor. The medical team thus opted for a more complex, but saving solution: the transplant from a living donor.

The liver transplant with living donor and the use of the most modern surgical techniques reconfirm our commitment for performance and innovation. Through this new success we have shown once again that medicine of excellence can be done to the highest standards in Romania andsaid Dr. Doris Andronescu, the general director of Sanador.

A premiere in this intervention was the use of 3D laparoscopy to harvest the hepatic lobe from the donor, a 36 -year -old man. Due to this minimally invasive method, its recovery was rapid, being discharged in only nine days.

It is a major success for Romanian medicine, and this transplant means not only a new chance for the patient, but also a confirmation of our potential to practice top medicine, with the latest technologies and dedicated teams”, Declared Prof. Dr. Vlad Brașoveanu.

He also emphasized the importance of teamwork for the success of such an intervention: “Everything is about the team – surgeons, anesthetists, intensive care specialists, hepatologists – each contributes with its expertise so that patients have a new chance to life”.

This achievement comes five years after the first liver transplant performed in the private medical system in Romania, confirming the evolution and performances of medicine in the country.
